Barham Villas

Barham Villas, a 168-unit multifamily residential community in San Marcos, California, is using a FarmBox Foods Vertical Hydroponic Farm to provide residents with free, fresh vegetables year-round. Installed as part of North Coast’s broader social impact and sustainability initiatives, the high-efficiency container farm grows over 80 types of edible plants—including leafy greens, herbs, tomatoes, and peppers—using only 10–15 gallons of water per day through a recirculating system.

The on-site farm connects residents directly to the food they eat, with produce distributed regularly at no cost. Unclaimed harvests are donated to local nonprofits, reinforcing the community’s commitment to reducing food waste and promoting food access. The initiative launched during the property’s inaugural “FarmBox to Table” event and has already generated enthusiasm among residents eager to participate in a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.

By pairing the FarmBox with existing solar power, food drives, and pollinator programs, Barham Villas demonstrates how residential communities can lead in sustainability while enhancing resident well-being. North Coast and its parent company, Virtú Investments, see the FarmBox program as both a values-driven and profitable investment that aligns with growing consumer demand for environmental responsibility and wellness-focused amenities.
